Visiting Islay but keen to see more of the Scottish isles? Join us on a trip to the islands of Staffa and Iona.

Departing from Port Askaig at 9AM, we will head north passing Colonsay and then on towards Mull. It will take us around 1.5 hours to reach our first stop, with wildlife spotting opportunities on the way. For example, we regularly see common dolphins, harbour porpoise, minke whales, Manx shearwater and lots of other marine life so keep your eyes peeled. (We cannot guarantee wildlife sightings)

Depending on the weather, and how busy the area is etc, the crew will decide whether to stop of Staffa or Iona first.

At Iona, guests can disembark and spend around two hours exploring the island. You may choose to grab a bite to eat, visit Iona Abbey (not included in our tour, you would need to pay for this separately) or just enjoy a walk around the island. Iona also has corncrakes visiting in the summer months, so listen out for calling males.

Staffa is famous for two things; a puffin colony and Fingal’s Cave. We will drop you off at Staffa, again for around two hours. Once you disembark you can head left across the basalt columns of rock towards the famous Fingal’s Cave. Or head up the stairs and along the cliff tops to the puffin colony. Enjoy watching these charismatic little seabirds bring sand eels to their burrows. Remember to be patient here to get the best views.

After exploring the two islands, we will head back to Port Askaig with more sea watching opportunities on our way home. You will arrive back on Islay around 4PM.

Weather conditions can become unsuitable, especially given the distance covered for this tour, and we will keep you updated if we need to cancel/ rearrange a trip via text, phone call or email.

Please bring warm clothing as it can get chilly out on the water even if the sun is shining. This trip is longer than our regular trips, so please remember to bring lots of layers and refreshments if you think you will need them.

For our Staffa and Iona trip, we depart from Port Askaig. There is no pontoon here meaning that access to the boats is not wheelchair accessible. We apologise for this. For this trip, all passengers must have a reasonable amount of mobility to be able to get onto the boats safely, which will be one of our RIBS rather than hard boats. If you have any questions regarding access, please feel free to contact us directly or take a look at our accessibility policy.

Due to landing on Staffa, we cannot allow dogs on this tour. Our apologies for the inconvenience.

*Please note: due to weather and sea swell, it may be unsafe to land on Staffa. This is outside of our control and our crew will try their upmost to get you onto the island. In the event that we cannot land on Staffa, we will take the boat around to Fingal’s Cave to give you a good view as well as closer to the puffin colony (by sea) to make sure we see the birds.
